Former Workshop of Ernest Salu

The workshop has cancelled its participation in the Biennial

Meeting Point

Parvis Notre-Dame de Laeken 16 - 1020 Laeken

In 1881, the funerary sculptor Ernest Salu had studios built not far from the Laeken cemetery, expanding over time, until they closed in 1984. In the beginning, they designed artistic and exclusive pieces that were only accessible to the wealthy elite. With increasing democratisation, gravestones increasingly became "catalogue products". The Atelier Salu attempted to react to this development. Nowadays, the buildings have been transformed into a funerary art museum by the non-profit organisation Epitaaf.
