Rue des Vétérinaires 47, 1070 Brussels
Duration of guided tour: 45 min.
The former National School of Veterinary Medicine is a vast building built between 1894 and 1909, largely in the Flemish Neo-Renaissance style, to the designs of J.-B. Seroen, a leading architect of public buildings. Laid out along the Boulevard de la Révision, the complex is made up of a series of pavilions covering a rectangular plot of almost four hectares. The overall homogenous effect is achieved using blue stone, white Euville stone and brick, in what the architect claimed to be the Flemish Neo-Renaissance style, with Italian Neo-Renaissance and Neo-Classical touches on the white stone facades, visible from the streets. Having been abandoned in the 1990s, the building was converted into apartments, except for the former administrative building that was purchased by Anderlecht Town Council and converted into a business centre called 'The Faculty'. All of the facades are now listed. The guided tour will show visitors the interior of the former administrative building including its events hall, as well as telling the story of the renovation of this remarkable site.
